Excellent location - unlike many other resort-style hotels in the area, you are right next to the downtown area. Very comfortable rooms with a great atmosphere - paying for a sea view is worth it. Friendly and helpful staff. Had drinks at the bar once, it was nice. Ample facilities, it never felt like there was not enough space for everybody at any pool or hot tub location, bar, parking garage, etc. Do not understand the other complaints about lack of soundproofing: Could never hear anything in other rooms and very little outside with the door closed, and the AC was quiet to us too. Booked a massage and loved it. Catered to an older crowd, but as someone not into nightlife anymore, I actually liked that. Also like the adults only feature.

The level of cleanliness was absolutely exceptional. The staff in all departments could not be more friendly and professional. The whole hotel really caters for true relaxation and comfort from the comfy beds to the huge heated indoor pool to the roof top hot tub overlooking the port, the perfect location to watch the cruise liners come in and out and watch the sun go down. This was also topped off with the most incredible spa treatment

The location in the old town was ideal for us. Convenient for restaurants, bars, shops and local transport. Lovely room with great sea views, good choice at breakfast - something for everyone- helpful and responsive staff, great pools. We didn't use the cooking facilities but kettle and fridge were a godsend. Everywhere was spotless. The complimentary bottle of wine in our room on my birthday was an unexpected bonus.

Breakfast has impressive variety. The staff cannot do enough to help. The hotel offers different themed meals every day of the week. The location is unbeatable in Funchal being in the heart of the old town and very close to all the main attractions

The room was spacious and had a nice balcony overlooking a park. It´s also an added perk to join the PortoBay "Prestige Club" in that you get 10% off on anything you consume while at the hotel. I will continue to seek out PortoBay wherever I travel.
